Healthy Ways ~ Green Days

How can kid's help the environment?
We don't buy cars, gas or solar pannels...but, by reducing the amount of meat and dairy in our diets, we help the environment and our health at the same time?

Background
This project is being sponsored by the Meridian Health Foundation and was inspired by the United Nations Environment Programme’s World Environment Day, which was held in San Francisco on June 5, 2005.  Further inspiration for us came from attending the United Nations' Children’s World Summit in Japan during the summer of 2005 where we were appointed as Youth Delegates to represent the United Nations Environment Programme in North America.

Have you reduced the amount of meat and dairy?
Yes!  I have been eating vegetarian dinners at home and have also lost weight...this is a great added bonus.  Being healthy, helping to reduce carbon emissions and losing a few pounds, what could be better?

United Nation's World Environment Day
World Environment Day is celebrated each year on June 5th, and is one of the main vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness about the environment and enhances action.  Each year there is a new theme.  "Kick the Carbon Habit" is the message for 2008-2009.
